For those of you who loyally follow my blog, my utmost apologies for the virtual silence of the last few months. Yes, I'm still writing, but nowhere near as prolifically as I was before.
As I hate the term 'writer's block' I refuse to apply to myself. The fact is, since my son started school in September last year, my schedule has changed. I no longer have two or three quiet hours a home in the morning. All my writing time has shifted to the other end of the day, after the school run, after the paid job, after the gym and after dinner time, bed time and housework. Basically, writing now comes last on the list of daily activities (not by choice), and as a result I'm tired and uninspired by the time I get to it, it's really frustrating!
I've started dozens of new shorts which I seem to lose interest in or can't be bothered to finish. And instead of writing my fingers raw, as I used to, I'm now happy to procrastinate on the internet and use my valuable time for nothing of any purpose. This has to stop!
The remedy? Catch up on my sleep until I can get up at least an hour to ninety minutes earlier than usual, and use this time for writing.
There is some good news. For those of you who were interested in the Ripper novel I was co-writing; we finished it! Forty-four golden chapters of intrigue and drama; a story, which even if I do say so myself (and so does my writing partner), is excellent. Editing has begun and we're hopeful to have a finished product by the end of the year.
I'll be back... I will be back!
