So, after giving myself a thorough ticking off for being a lazy writer I have been very busy.
First of all I finished reading Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller. This is a seriously fantastic book, thought provoking, bordering on life changing. My writing will be better for reading it and the way I look at my own life also seems to have been affected. It's a personal realisation and I'm not going to share, but what I will say is, if you are open minded and not easily offended read the book. I've been so moved by it that I have already written a review for 'Off The Shelf' in the next edition of The Writer's Beat Quarterly.
My new read, as you can see is Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, this was another recommendation by a friend. and once again the nail has been hit on the head. I opened just the first page to peruse the contents as I placed my favorite book mark ready to start reading, and when I looked again I was on page 14!! The prose is enchanting and I have a feeling it will carry me through the book at an impressive pace.
Now, as for my writing. Two submissions made in the last 48 hours including one which was shared on WB for improvement. And now I've dusted off my beloved short 'Big Red' also titled 'Devil of a Deal'. It's a paranormal romance - I think that's the best fitting genre for it - between a romanticised version of Satan and a young human woman. This story really needs a home, it's a great tale even if I do say so and Big Red is my favorite male character creation. I've had some great feedback so far, but will hold on for some more before I started looking at publishers.
So yes, well done me. Excellent progress ahead of schedule. Although I must admit its thanks in part to the dreadful cold I've had over the last few days which has kept me out of work and seen me sleeping during the middle of the day. When thoroughly dosed up on cold medication it was possible to complete much of this progress in between the sweats and the shivers. So even the greyest clouds have a little silver lining. However as I am now feeling much better it is back to work tomorrow.
